Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Piazza deals with students travelling from one building to another within the institution. Creating NAFA Piazza to be more influential to students’ feelings while travelling will leave experiences.
The piazza is able to give different experiences in harmony. Coexistence is a harmony of different things taking place at the same time. It respects the various sides it has. The use of different forms is able to give different feelings, such as pressure and freedom. Those feelings can be experienced depending on where the students stand in this space.
The use of planar structures strengthens the idea of coexistence and harmony within the space. The students are able to experience different experiences as they walk through the planar structures. The planes are bent to create smooth curves. The concavity and convexity created are able to generate different experiences.
Planes that are slanted more towards the ground will give a suffocated feeling. The other side of the plane will have more open space and deliver relieved feeling. One plane is able to communicate different experiences. The planar structures made of weathered steel are arranged diagonally following the direction of where the sun rises. Hence, sunlight path will be visible in the morning. Some seating spaces and greeneries are placed for relaxation area as well.
Students are able to interact with space through the ‘two-face’ experiences as they explore the space.

second universe: floating discovery walk
Located on the west side of Pulau Ubin, Ketam Quarry is well-known for its rich history in granite quarrying and breath-taking landscape. It is the biggest and last quarry in Pulau Ubin to close. Today, the quarry has been ceased from mining and becomes a destination for tourists and nature enthusiasts.
Imperata cylindrica or cogongrass and Pennisetum polystachion or mission grass are the most distinguishable vegetations at Ketam Quarry. Characteristics of the grass are fragile yet strong. It dances and follows the breeze from the sea rhythmically. Flexibility to emulate the wind direction preserves the weed to survive. Being adaptive and invasive is also its characteristic as one of the native plants in Pulau Ubin.
Ribbon depicts the flexibility that the grass possesses. It captures the wind and moves as the wind blows. A ribbon can showcase frailty and strength at the same time. It is easy to bend and fold but it is frequently used to tie and create and a strong bond. Just like the grass, the ribbon has a dual personality: fragile and strong. The floating discovery walk brings the visitors closer to the untouched nature of Pulau Ubin by looking at the distinctive features of the grass: flexible, fragile, and strong. The atmosphere of understory layer of rainforest exhibits different ecosystems. Second Universe wraps among the trees in different levels of height and lets the visitors enjoy diverse indigenous lives in the forest near Ketam Quarry. Nature enthusiasts, nature photographers, birdwatchers and family can come and savour the genuine wildlife of the forest of Ketam Quarry.
Expanded metal is the main material of Second Universe. Its ability to fold in various direction mimics the flexibility of the grass and ribbon. Some areas have net flooring that let the visitors relax and play. The journey also takes the visitors to a submerged area at the edge of the quarry to let them experience the water of Ketam Quarry on their feet.
